Air-dried whole food for dogs — UK guide

Everything pet parents need to know about SMPL’s air-dried whole-food recipes — how they’re made, what’s inside, and how to switch your dog safely.

Air-drying is the gentlest way to preserve a raw whole-food diet for dogs. We hold each batch below 60°C for roughly twenty-four hours, which draws out moisture without cooking off the nutritional integrity of the meat, organ, vegetables and botanicals that go into the bag. The result is shelf-stable, calorie-dense food that doesn't need a freezer, doesn't need rehydrating, and doesn't carry the high-heat damage of kibble.

Every SMPL whole-food recipe is built around a single named protein — chicken, beef or pork — sourced from accredited UK farms and listed by supplier on the back of the bag. Twelve recognisable ingredients per recipe; no fillers, no plant-protein bulking, no "meat derivatives." A board-certified veterinary nutritionist formulates each bag to meet AAFCO complete-and-balanced standards for adult dog maintenance, which means you can feed SMPL as your dog's only meal without adding anything to the bowl.

Switching is straightforward. We recommend a seven-day transition for most dogs: start at one-quarter SMPL, three-quarters current food, and increase the SMPL share daily. For sensitive stomachs, stretch the transition to ten to fourteen days. The feeding calculator on each product page returns daily gram allowance plus the right number of 2.5kg bags per month for your dog's weight and activity level, so subscription cadence isn't something you have to guess at.
